Frequently asked questions

How do I get started at Toronto Mental Health Clinic?
The easiest first step is to book a free 15-minute consultation through our online booking system. You will be matched with a clinician who fits your needs. During the consultation we will discuss what you are navigating, answer your questions, and determine whether we are a good fit before you commit to any sessions.
What can I expect in a first session?
Your first full session (typically 50 minutes) is an intake — your clinician will want to understand your history, current concerns, and goals. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with. By the end, you and your clinician will have a shared sense of direction and next steps.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes. We offer secure video sessions to clients anywhere in Ontario. Many clients prefer the flexibility of virtual care, and the evidence shows that video-delivered psychotherapy is as effective as in-person for most presentations. In-person sessions are also available at our Toronto office.
What are your fees, and do you accept insurance?
Please contact us directly for current fee information. Many extended health benefit plans cover services from a Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Social Worker. We recommend checking your plan's coverage before your first session. We do not direct-bill insurance, but we provide receipts for reimbursement.
How long will therapy take?
Duration depends on your goals and the complexity of your concerns. Some clients achieve their goals in six to twelve sessions; others benefit from longer-term work. Your clinician will discuss a realistic timeline with you after the intake, and you are always free to reassess as you go.
What therapeutic approaches do your clinicians use?
Our clinicians are trained in a range of evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), CBT for Insomnia (CBT-I), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), trauma-informed practice, and somatic approaches. The specific approach is chosen collaboratively based on your needs and goals.
I am not sure what I need — can you help me figure that out?
Absolutely. Many people come to us without a clear sense of what kind of support they need. Our free 15-minute consultation is designed exactly for this. We will listen to what you are experiencing and suggest the right clinician and approach — with no obligation.
Do you work with clients who have complex or overlapping conditions?
Yes. Our team is experienced with complex presentations — for example, ADHD alongside chronic pain and anxiety, or trauma combined with insomnia. Our founder's neuroscience background means we are particularly well-equipped to understand and treat presentations where multiple systems are involved.
